Description
A BM1366 chip tester: a socketed bench fixture that gives you a straight PASS or ERROR on a single Bitmain BM1366-series ASIC. It covers the BM1366AL, BM1366AG, BM1366BS, BM1366BP and BM1366AH variants — the chips used on Antminer S19 XP, S19 XP Hydro and S19k Pro hashboards. The unit has an OLED readout labelled BM1366, a 40 mm cooling fan for the socket, a reset button and a DC 5 V input.

The two moments a BM1366 chip tester pays for itself
One: you are stuck on the same fault. You have found the domain, reworked it, powered up, and the board reports the same failure. At that point the question is no longer where is the fault, it is is this chip actually dead — and you cannot answer that in circuit. Pull it, socket it, press test. A definite answer ends the loop instead of committing you to another hour of rework on a hypothesis.
Two, and this is the bigger one: you have just bought chips. BM1366s are sold loose in trays as new stock and as tested pulls, and the quality is genuinely variable no matter what the seller says. An S19 XP hashboard carries around 110 of them. Soldering an unknown-quality chip onto a board is how a straightforward repair turns into a second repair — and if you are working through a tray, testing them first tells you your yield before you have committed any labour. That is also the leverage you need to go back to whoever sold you the tray while the claim window is still open.
How it is used, and what it needs
The chip comes off the board with bottom heat — a hot plate, around 300 °C — then goes into the socket with pin 1 aligned, and the test button starts the run. Power is 5 V DC; vendors specify an adjustable supply set to 5 V with plenty of current headroom, so an ordinary small wall wart is not the right feed. Observe normal ESD precautions; you are handling bare BGAs.
What it does not tell you
PASS / ERROR is a functional go/no-go and nothing more. It is not a binning tool. It will not tell you a chip’s efficiency, its voltage behaviour, or whether it will still be good after 18 months in a hot shed — so a tray that tests 100% PASS is a tray of chips that work, not a tray of well-binned chips. Treat it as the floor, not the ceiling.
Fitment — the mistake we would rather you did not make
This fixture is BM1366 only. The BM1368AA used on the S21 and T21 generation is a different chip and this tester does not cover it, despite the one-digit gap in the part number. Check the chip marking on your board before ordering. The natural companions here are as-is boards to work on — we generally have an S19 XP Pro hashboard sold as-is and a tested-working S19 Pro hashboard — plus a board-level fixture such as the K3L tester to find the bad domain in the first place, and the full hashboard repair tool kit for the rework itself. What should I check the day it arrives?
Photograph the pallet or box before you open it, keep the packaging, and run the 48-hour acceptance test straight away. Freight claim windows are short, and a fault found on day two is a conversation while a fault found on day thirty is an argument.
