Description

The Loki Kit is a power conversion kit that lets you run a Bitmain X19-series Antminer from a 120 V outlet instead of the 200–240 V supply the machine is built for. It is an installation and siting tool: it solves the problem of having the miner but not the circuit.

What the Loki Kit does — and what it does not

We are going to be direct about this, because an earlier version of this page said the kit “boosts hash rate performance and mining efficiency” and that is not true.

  • It does not increase your hashrate. A converter moves energy from one form to another. It does not create energy, and hashrate comes from power and silicon, not from wiring.
  • It does not make the machine more efficient. Every conversion stage loses a little to heat, so a converted setup draws marginally more at the wall for the same work, not less.
  • In practice you will run the machine derated. A standard 120 V household circuit cannot deliver the roughly 3,250 W an X19 wants at full tilt. You turn the machine down in firmware to fit the circuit, and you get proportionally less hashrate for it. That is the trade, and it is a perfectly reasonable one — it is just not a performance upgrade.

So when is it the right buy?

When the alternative is not running the machine at all. If you have an X19 and a 120 V garage outlet, this gets you mining this week instead of after an electrician’s visit. It is also genuinely useful for bench testing and diagnostics, for temporary siting, and for anyone relocating gear who needs it powered somewhere without three-phase or a 240 V drop. What it is not is a substitute for a proper circuit if you intend to run the machine at its rated output long term — for that, get the 240 V supply installed.

Safety, because this is the part that hurts

Do not exceed the rating of the circuit you are plugging into. A 15 A 120 V circuit is about 1,800 W, and continuous loads should sit well under that. Anyone telling you that you can pull a full X19’s worth of power through a domestic 120 V socket is describing a fire, not a setup. Derate the miner, use properly rated cordage, and do not daisy-chain it. If you are unsure what your circuit can carry, ask us before you order — and if we think you need an electrician rather than a converter, we will say so.

Add this to the machine’s price before you compare anything

The number that decides a used purchase is landed cost per terahash, and a conversion kit is part of the landed cost. On our $159.99 used S19 this $99.99 kit is 62% of the machine, taking a $1.68-per-terahash purchase to about $2.74 before freight. That is still far below the $17.14 per terahash of a new S21 Pro 245T at $4,200, so the used case survives it easily — but it survives it as a worse number, and buyers who compare a bare miner price against a new machine’s are not comparing the same thing.

Then apply the derate. A 120 V circuit cannot deliver what an X19 wants, so the machine runs turned down: less hashrate for the same capital, which pushes cost per terahash up a second time. Two adjustments, both in the same direction. What a grade here does not mean

  • Cosmetic wear is not a fault. Dust, scratches, scuffed labels and discoloured plastics are normal on hardware that has been earning. We photograph what we have; if the pictures matter to you, ask for more and we will take them.
  • A grade is not a warranty. Warranty terms are stated per listing, never per store — see the Shipping & buying tab. A tested-working grade describes what the machine did on our bench, not what we owe you in six months.
  • A boosted hashrate is not a spec. Where a unit ships on tuned firmware we say so and we give the factory figures too, because overclocking raises power faster than it raises hashrate — a tuned machine is less efficient per terahash than stock, not more.
  • We will not invent a grade to fill a field. If a unit came in without history and has not been through the bench, its listing says that.

How the grade gets decided

A used-hardware seller who will not tell you how they test is asking you to take the grade on trust. Ours is published: the six-step bench procedure every machine goes through, and the five measurements that get recorded — per-board hashrate, chip count, measured wall power rather than the nameplate figure, hardware error rate, and temperature under sustained load. When it reaches you, run the 48-hour acceptance test straight away, while the freight claim window is still open.
