What the “JC” on the end means

CE505JC is HP’s contract-channel cartridge, not the retail one. HP sells the same physical cartridge into managed-print and contract programmes under a separate part number. It is genuine HP and it drops straight into the same printers; it simply was not packaged for a shelf in a stationery shop. That is the entire difference, and it is why contract SKUs turn up in surplus at all — an office closes, a print contract ends, and the unopened stock has to go somewhere.

Be careful with the yield figure, including ours

Distributor catalogues list CE505JC at 8,000 pages, and some resellers label it as an 05X. Those two claims do not agree, because HP’s published ISO/IEC 19752 yields for the retail cartridges in this family are:

05A — CE505A	2,300 pages, standard yield
05X — CE505X	6,500 pages, high yield
CE505JC	8,000 pages per distributor catalogues — see below

We are quoting a distributor figure, not a number we read off HP’s own datasheet for the JC part, and we would rather say so than round it into a claim. If your decision turns on cost per page, check the yield printed on the box before you commit — and remember every one of those numbers assumes 5% page coverage, which almost nobody actually prints.

Condition

The listing states new and OEM sealed. Toner has a real shelf life: the powder itself keeps for years in a sealed bag, but the drum’s photo sensitivity degrades with light exposure and the wiper blade can take a set if a cartridge has been stored on end for a long time. Store it flat, in the box, away from a window, and let it come up to room temperature before installing it if it has been somewhere cold.
