Bitcoin ETF outflows turned October red on the last trading day. U.S. spot funds lost about $643 million on October 30, which flipped a positive month to a loss of about $515 million. BlackRock’s IBIT still took in more than $930 million for the month. Almost everyone else lost money. Here is the breakdown.
The day that flipped October
According to Farside data reported by Bitcoinist, the funds saw $643.2 million of net outflows on October 30. That was the biggest one-day exit since June. It topped the $635.6 million that left on October 22. Before that session, October was up $127.3 million. Afterwards, it was down.
In fact, the selling was broad. Even IBIT lost $233.7 million that day, Fidelity’s FBTC $201 million, and ARKB $129.5 million. Those three made up about 88% of the day. Ether funds lost another $155.7 million, so the combined exit was $798.9 million.
October bitcoin ETF outflows by fund
The TFTC flow table puts the month at minus $515.0 million. Crypto.news, cited by Bitcoinist, puts it at minus $515.9 million. The gap is rounding, so call it about $515 million. There were 13 inflow days and 9 outflow days. The best day was October 21, at plus $528.4 million.
| Fund | October net flow |
|---|---|
| BlackRock IBIT | +$931.8M |
| Fidelity FBTC | -$754.6M |
| ARK 21Shares ARKB | -$444.1M |
| Grayscale GBTC | -$184.1M |
| Bitwise BITB | -$84.0M |
| All funds | about -$515M |
So IBIT carried the month. Without it, the other funds lost about $1.45 billion. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT was one of only four funds with an inflow, at $34.6 million. Meanwhile, Fidelity’s FBTC lost the most, at $754.6 million.
Why it is not a crash
First, put it in scale. The funds have taken in about $57 billion net since they launched in January 2024, per Bitcoinist. As a result, a $515 million month is under 1% of that. Bitcoin trades near $77,729 as we write this on November 1, per CoinGecko. On the other hand, two outflow days above $600 million in one week is not nothing. It shows how fast the money can turn.
What it means for miners
We care about flows because they move price, and price moves hashprice. Every miner’s margin rides on it. If the selling runs into November, a weaker bitcoin price squeezes older machines first. If IBIT keeps buying, it may cushion the drop.
Either way, run your own numbers. Our Bitcoin price prediction updates daily, and the mining economics guides show the break-even on real machines. For the Ether side of the same story, see our report on Ether ETF outflows and Bitmine.
